Empress Teimei


Empress Teimei was empress consort of Emperor Taish of Japan. Born Sadako Kuj , she was the mother of Emperor Shwa. Her posthumous name, Teimei, means enlightened constancy.

Sadako Kuj was born onJune 1884 in Tokyo, as the fourth daughter of Duke Michitaka Kuj, head of Kuj branch of the Fujiwara clan. Her mother was Ikuko Noma.
